Job Description: Senior C&I Designer 

Location: Seascale, Cumbria (site-based / hybrid as applicable)
Contract Length: 12 months (initial)
Sector: Nuclear 

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Designer. 

This is a role, responsible for overseeing design delivery across a portfolio of nuclear projects, with a particular focus on instrumentation systems. The successful candidate will provide technical assurance, leadership, and coordination, ensuring all design outputs meet the stringent quality and safety standards required in a nuclear environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform technical checking, verification, and approval of C&I design deliverables
• Lead and coordinate instrumentation design activities from concept through to detailed design
• Ensure all designs comply with:
  • Nuclear regulatory requirements
  • Site standards and procedures
  • Relevant engineering codes and best practice
• Oversee and review key deliverables, including:
  • Instrumentation schematics and loop diagrams
  • Hook-ups and wiring diagrams
  • Cable schedules and termination details
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to design team members
• Support portfolio delivery, balancing workload across multiple projects
• Identify and manage technical risks, issues, and design constraints
• Interface with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integration of C&I systems with wider plant design
• Contribute to planning, resourcing, and scheduling activities within the design function

Key Requirements

• Proven experience as a Senior C&I Designer within the nuclear industry
• Previous experience working on nuclear sites 
• Demonstrated ability to:
  • Act in a lead design and checking capacity
  • Manage multiple projects / portfolio delivery
• Strong expertise in:
  • Instrumentation design and systems
  • Design verification and assurance processes
• Familiarity with:
  • Nuclear safety culture and regulatory frameworks
