RESPONSIBILITIES
Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Cost Engineer to support project cost management activities across a range of complex projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in budget preparation, cost forecasting, performance analysis, and financial reporting, helping project teams maintain effective cost control throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the preparation, monitoring, and control of project budgets and forecasts.
- Assist with the implementation and management of change control processes.
- Ensure compliance with established procedures, processes, and systems to maintain the quality and consistency of project cost data.
- Monitor project expenditure and performance, including accrual management where required.
- Contribute to the production of cost reports, highlighting trends, risks, opportunities, and early warnings.
- Support Schedule Performance Index (SPI) and Cost Performance Index (CPI) variance analysis, including root cause investigations and recovery planning.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of Project Cost Breakdown Structures (CBS).
- Support the preparation of cost studies and benchmarking exercises using historical and project data.
- Analyse project cost and performance trends to provide meaningful insights and recommendations to project management teams.
- Review resource utilisation, manpower productivity, and project time bookings against planned allocations.
- Identify resource constraints and support recommendations to optimise project performance.
- Provide accurate and timely cost information to support project decision-making and reporting requirements.
- Undertake additional cost engineering and project controls activities as required.
Key Requirements
- Experience in a Cost Engineering, Cost Control, Project Controls, or related project support role.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Experience working with project budgets, forecasting, cost reporting, and performance analysis.
- Understanding of earned value management principles, including SPI and CPI analysis.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and project cost management systems.
- Ability to interpret complex data and present findings clearly to stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet reporting deadlines.
- Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
