1. Purpose of the Role
1.1 To manage design consultant activities and deliverables to ensure they are completed in line with the agreed programme and Client requirements. This may include more than one consultant.
1.2 To be the technical lead for the permanent works design on the project unless a Design Manager is present.
1.3 Ensure both input and output deliverables for the design are tracked and reported to the Project / Engineering Manager as required.

3. Role Accountabilities
3.1 Manage the Technical Queries process. Assigning actions and follow up on responses.
3.2 Manage and communicate all design queries, comments and information required from Design workshops and meetings and keep records.
3.3 Raise requests for further information internally and externally from the whole project team.
3.4 Support the Design Manager to ensure all design deliverables are timeously provided as per the design programmes.
3.5 Review Designers Monthly reports and produce monthly reports on design progress and any other design specific elements.
3.6 Manage and update the design deliverable schedule.
3.7 Review all design deliverables and ensure that they are completed to the expected standard. Challenge and resolve when not, including reviewing of all drawing in line with the Clients Scope/requirements.
3.8 Attend interface meeting with external parties, keeping record of meeting and assign/follow up on actions related to the Design.
3.9 Arrange internal design interface meetings with construction department
3.10 Ensure compliance with design management processes required by the contract.
3.11 Collaborate with the engagement of external suppliers/subcontractors.
3.12 Manage provision of drawings to project team – document control.
3.13 Manage the BIM requirements for permanent and temporary works together with the BIM/CAD Technician.
3.14 Assist the Lead TWC as design lead for temporary works design packages for the project and ensure the Temporary Works Process is implemented and followed at all times.
4. Additional Duties
4.1 Any other duties consistent with your status and seniority, as necessary to meet the needs of the Business.
4.2 Liaise with Designer or representative as required under the contract.
4.3 Work with Technical Services Department to ensure best practice in relation to design management.
4.4 Promote the company to all clients, designers and other external organisations.
4.5 Maintain contacts with Consultants, Clients, and other bodies as appropriate to demonstrate ability to provide best value.
4.6 Assist with the recruitment of engineers, technicians, at all levels, including interviewing and identifying potential recruits.
4.7 Assist with the training and development of engineers at all levels including the attainment of professional qualifications.
4.8 Build the profile of the company in schools, universities, consultants and other external organisations.
5. Key Safety Responsibilities
5.1 Please see separate individual responsibilities for Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental (HSQE) matters attached.
5.2 Implement CDM requirements.
6. Required Project Knowledge
6.1 Wide-ranging understanding and working knowledge of construction methods and outputs and can coach others
6.2 Will have both substantial construction and design experience.
6.3 Understands the Principal Designer Duties
6.4 Extensive knowledge in implementing and promoting Digital Engineering practices in design as well as construction.
6.5 Heavy civil engineering projects and tunnelling experience advantageous.
