Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer / Tooling Designer
Location: Derby
Employment Type: Contract

Role Overview:
An engineering organisation within the energy and infrastructure sector is expanding its design capability at its Derby location due to increased project demand. The organisation is seeking a Senior Tooling Designer to support the delivery of complex engineering solutions.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design tooling, jigs, fixtures, and components in line with customer and project requirements

  • Produce outline and detailed design solutions

  • Identify, analyse, and resolve engineering challenges

  • Evaluate product performance, reliability, and safety

  • Modify and optimise designs to meet evolving requirements

  • Estimate project scope, cost, and resource requirements

  • Manage project risks and opportunities

  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, and design records

  • Support continuous improvement and professional development initiatives


Qualifications & Experience:

Essential:

  • Experience in mechanical engineering roles, ideally including areas such as valves, pressure vessels, structural components, tooling, or lifting equipment

  • Proven experience delivering mechanical design solutions

  • Understanding of relevant design codes, standards, and safety legislation

  • Ability to manage full design lifecycle activities (requirements capture through to detailed design)

  • Knowledge of engineering materials

  • Experience using 3D CAD software (e.g. Siemens NX or similar)

  • Familiarity with PLM systems (e.g. Teamcenter or equivalent)

  • Experience with engineering analysis tools (e.g. MathCAD, ANSYS, ABAQUS or similar)

  • Experience supporting or mentoring team members

  • Degree (BEng or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline

  • Security clearance (or ability to obtain clearance)

  • Roles may be subject to security and export control requirements

  • Candidates must be eligible to meet baseline security clearance requirements, with some roles requiring higher levels of vetting and UK residency history
