RESPONSIBILITIES
Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join our team on a  nuclear site. The role involves the installation, assembly, maintenance, and testing of a wide range of mechanical systems and components, working to stringent nuclear industry standards. The successful candidate will demonstrate technical competence, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities

Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and method statements to carry out mechanical fitting activities.

Assemble, install, align, and secure mechanical equipment such as pumps, valves, pipework, heat exchangers, and rotating machinery.

Conduct testing, commissioning support, and pre/post-installation inspections.

Carry out mechanical maintenance, fault diagnosis, and repairs as required.

Work in compliance with nuclear safety regulations, site permit-to-work systems, and quality assurance processes.

Use precision measuring instruments and tools to ensure tolerances are met.

Contribute to risk assessments, toolbox talks, and safe work planning.

Record all work activities in accordance with project documentation requirements.

Collaborate with other trades and disciplines to ensure safe, efficient project delivery.

Essential Skills & Experience

Time-served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Fitting or a related discipline.

Proven experience in mechanical fitting within highly regulated industries (preferably nuclear, power generation, defence, or oil & gas).

Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, pipework, and rotating equipment.

Demonstrated ability to read and work from complex engineering drawings and technical documents.

Awareness of nuclear safety culture and quality requirements.

Experience working under permit-to-work systems and with strict safety protocols.

Desirable Skills & Qualifications

Previous nuclear site experience 

CCNSG Safety Passport / CSCS / Nuclear Safety Passport.

Confined Space, Manual Handling, and Lifting Operations awareness.

Knowledge of pressure systems and alignment techniques.

Familiarity with QA documentation, lifetime records, and traceability requirements.

Personal Attributes

Team player with excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Detail-oriented, with a strong commitment to delivering work to high standards.
