RESPONSIBILITIES

Job Title: Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Design Engineer
Location: Warrington (minimum 3 days per week on-site)
Hours: 37 hours per week over 4½ days
Security Clearance: SC required

Job Overview

An opportunity has arisen for an E&I Design Engineer to support the delivery of multidisciplinary engineering projects from concept design through to project handover. The role will involve developing electrical and instrumentation designs, ensuring compliance with relevant engineering standards, and providing technical support throughout the project lifecycle.

The successful candidate will work closely with engineering teams to produce design documentation and support construction and commissioning activities, while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and technical compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver E&I design solutions on multidisciplinary engineering projects from concept through to detailed design and handover.

• Produce and review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.

• Design and develop systems related to electrical supply infrastructure, including small power, lighting, and earthing.

• Ensure designs comply with relevant engineering standards, codes, and project requirements.

• Work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines to coordinate design activities.

• Provide technical support to construction and commissioning teams during project execution.

• Assist in resolving technical issues and responding to design queries during installation and commissioning.

• Communicate technical information clearly to team members, stakeholders, and project teams.

• Support and mentor early career engineers where appropriate.

Essential Requirements

• Academic Qualification: HNC in Electrical, Electronic, or related Engineering discipline.

• Professional Qualification: Incorporated Engineer (or working towards).

• Security Clearance: SC clearance required or ability to obtain.

• Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as an Electrical Design Engineer delivering on external multidisciplinary projects.

  • Experience delivering projects from concept design through to handover.

  • Working knowledge of engineering standards relating to:

    • Electrical supply infrastructure

    • Small power systems

    • Lighting systems

    • Earthing systems

• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering disciplines.

• Experience providing technical support to construction and commissioning activities.

• Willingness to support and mentor early career engineers.

Desirable Requirements

• Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as an E&I Design Engineer on multidisciplinary engineering projects.

  • Experience working on complex or regulated industry projects.

• Working knowledge of engineering standards relating to:

  • Radiometric and specialist instrumentation

  • Safety systems

• Experience working within large-scale infrastructure or nuclear industry environments.
