RESPONSIBILITIES
Westlakes Recruit are currently recruiting for a commercial manager to be engaged on a permanent basis in Whitehaven, Cumbria. 

We are currently recruiting for a Commercial Manager to support a major construction framework within a highly regulated environment. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced commercial professional to take a strategic lead in driving commercial performance, managing risk, and supporting the successful delivery of complex projects.

As Commercial Manager, you will provide commercial leadership across the framework, ensuring strong contract management, robust financial governance, and effective commercial decision-making. Working closely with operations, finance, procurement, project controls, senior leadership, clients, and supply chain partners, you will play a key role in influencing profitability, client relationships, and overall project success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement commercial strategies aligned with business objectives, client requirements, and contract obligations.
  • Ensure full contract compliance while proactively identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Administer NEC3 / NEC4 contracts including compensation events, change control, KPIs, and applications for payment.
  • Manage commercial governance processes including forecasting, budgeting, CVRs, margin reporting, and financial performance tracking.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, stakeholders, and subcontractors.
  • Support procurement activities and ensure subcontract agreements are commercially robust and effectively managed.
  • Oversee subcontract administration from valuation through to final account settlement.
  • Represent the commercial function within audits, reviews, and strategic meetings.
  • Lead and mentor commercial team members while supporting wider commercial capability across the business.

About You:

  • Proven experience in a Commercial Management role within construction, engineering, infrastructure, or highly regulated sectors.
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC3 / NEC4 contracts and contract administration.
  • Experience managing high-value and complex contracts across multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen with experience in forecasting, reporting, and governance processes.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience leading and developing teams.
  • Degree qualified or equivalent industry experience.
  • Ability to obtain SC clearance.
  • Experience within nuclear, infrastructure, engineering, or public sector frameworks would be advantageous.
