Contract Engineering Lead 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Westlakes Recruit are looking for a Contract Engineering Lead to support major nuclear new build works in Bridgwater.

Role Overview

As a Contract Engineering Lead (CEL), you’ll be responsible for leading technical and engineering support to manufacturing contractors delivering equipment to site, across both the Nuclear Island and Conventional Island/Balance of Plant buildings.

You’ll report to an Operational Lead within the Joint Design Office (JDO) and work closely with contractors, construction teams, quality teams, project management, and design teams—ensuring integration across all disciplines.

The JDO was established to provide fast, responsive, site-based engineering support—minimising delays and helping construction teams receive timely, actionable engineering input.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead contract technical meetings and attend key project meetings

• Drive the resolution of technical issues and queries from contractors

• Review and approve contractor deliverables and design packages as required

• Manage technical and engineering evolution of the contract, including any design changes

• Review contract amendments and technical exemptions ahead of Project Manager sign-off

• Coordinate front-office (JDO) and back-office multi-disciplinary engineering teams

• Collaborate with Project Managers on resourcing and budget planning

• Monitor and report KPIs to both Project Managers and JDO leadership

• Provide coaching and guidance to less experienced CELs and junior engineers

What We’re Looking For

• Degree or equivalent experience in an Engineering or Scientific discipline

• Strong understanding of construction and installation practices, Health & Safety legislation, and CDM regulations

• Multi-disciplinary technical understanding with ability to assess and challenge engineering designs

• Background in mechanical equipment, rotating machinery, steelwork, or similar technical domains

• IT literate with strong communication and collaboration skills

• Fluency in spoken and written English (minimum B2 level)
