I & C Engineer (nuclear)

RESPONSIBILITIES

Job Purpose

To provide advanced engineering guidance and expertise in component engineering activities, troubleshooting, operability determinations, and temporary modifications for the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP). This role ensures compliance with regulatory standards, nuclear safety protocols, and operational policies to support BNPP’s business objectives and performance targets.

Key Accountabilities

• Engineering Guidance: Guide component engineering activities to improve reliability, reduce costs, and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Technical Expertise: Provide advanced technical support in troubleshooting equipment conditions and ensuring safe plant operations.
• Performance Monitoring: Lead monitoring and assessment of component performance using predictive maintenance to enhance reliability.
• Maintenance Planning: Participate in weekly maintenance meetings, offer input on requirements, and prioritize component maintenance needs.
• Asset Management: Manage long-term strategies, design changes, and preventive maintenance for component optimization.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure components meet or exceed regulatory standards and align with industry best practices for enhanced reliability.
• Work Management: Prioritize maintenance backlog and report on component work outcomes.
• Health Plan Management: Update and maintain component health plans to promote effective improvements.
• Equipment Reliability: Lead reliability initiatives and motivate adherence to reliability-focused practices.
• Database Accuracy: Validate equipment master database updates, ensuring accuracy and usefulness.
• Final Investment Decision (FID) Process: Control the FID process, including documentation and submission for approvals.
• Shutdown Oversight: Inspect assigned components during shutdowns to address any identified issues.
• Contractor Supervision: Oversee contractors’ maintenance activities to ensure compliance with procedures.
• WANO Reviews: Prepare for WANO pre-start-up peer reviews to maintain effective communication.
• Procedure Updates: Provide input for procedural revisions to keep operations instructions current.

Job Context

The I & C Engineer must be competent to understand system requirements and perform activities safely without disrupting operations.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in I&C Engineering or equivalent.

• Experience: Minimum of 8 years in nuclear or power plant industries, with at least 5 years in maintenance.

• Job-Specific Skills:

  • Understanding of international standards for maintenance programs.
  • Extensive experience in nuclear/power plant operations.
  • Proficiency in valve operations, heavy lifting, MS Project, and Primavera.
  • Strong decision-making and leadership skills under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Man management skills and ability to coordinate inter-departmentally.
  • Thorough knowledge of nuclear safety procedures and related practices.
  • Certifications in basic safety (e.g., confined space, high-radiation exposure).

• Preferred: Candidates under 40 years of age with approved Permit Holder certification.

Availability Requirement: The successful candidate must be available to start by January 25, 2025.
